Imperial buys German shipping company
Imperial Reederei, a subsidiary of Imperial Logistics International has bought a majority shareholding in the German shipping company Dettmer Bulk Reederei for an undisclosed sum. The deal is subject to approval under Germany's anti-trust laws.
Hubert Brody, chief executive of Imperial Holdings says the deal will strengthen the group's position in dry cargo shipping. Dettmer Bulk Reederei is a family-owned business with a turnover of R262-million a year.
The company owns six ships and has 25 chartered vessels. Imperial Reederei is an inland waterway shipping company in Europe and has the largest pushboat fleet in Western Europe.
