The Integrated Reporting Awards strives to improve standards of reporting, a critical element of good governance by providing valuable feedback on integrated reporting. They also offer an opportunity for peer-on-peer comparison, and measure of good corporate governance and risk management practices.
Integrated planning and reporting enable a company to plan for the future, and with the uncertainty that Covid-19 has brought and the ever rapidly evolving economic and social landscape, this aspect of integrated reports is and continues to be critical over the next years, especially if companies are to remain sustainable during this period.
Thabile Mathe, Airports Company South Africa’s chief strategy and performance officer, received the award on behalf of the company and spoke of how strategy and integrated thinking will successfully guide organisations during and post the pandemic. "Winning this award is very special for the company considering that it’s been a year of crisis and uncertainty – notably in the aviation industry. The award is also a reflection of our continued commitment to reporting in a balanced and transparent manner."
"Under these current circumstances, it has become more critical for business leaders to have a solid and agile strategy that will best position the business and its people to recover and remain sustainable in the long term. Although, as a company, we are nowhere close to being out of the woods, our revised integrated long-term plans refocus the organisation to ensure long term sustainability, thereby setting the company on a trajectory poised for growth post this pandemic."
The awards judging panel includes judges from The Chartered Governance Institute of Southern Africa, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the International Integrated Reporting Committee Framework Panel, Independent Integrated Reporting Specialists, Gordon Institute of Business Science, Wits School of Accounting, and the University of Johannesburg.
