How to optimally integrate smart grids - African Utility Week
According to PR.com, the European Technology Platform for Electricity Networks for the Future (Smart Grids ETP) defines a smart grid as an electricity network that can "intelligently integrate the actions of all users connected to it - consumers, generators and those that do both - in order to efficiently deliver sustainable, economic and secure electricity supplies."
Masego Matseke, lead Consultant and Smart Metering specialist at Deloitte Consulting (South Africa), who will contribute to the upcoming Smart Grids/Transmission & Distribution conference, said that a smart grid is based on a network "which enables automated metering capabilities on the customer-side [while providing] real-time grid monitoring [of] significant network events [and enables] fault detection, isolation and resolution."
Matseke said that households will be able to use Smart Grids to monitor the efficiency of in-home appliances and help to manage the country's demand and supply constraints.
The Smart Grids/Transmission & Distribution conference will be held during the African Utility Week at Johannesburg's Nasrec Expo Centre, on 22 and 23 May 2012, except the Smart Grids/T&D track which starts on 21 May already, PR.com reports.
