Gauteng reopens online admission system for late applications
To assist parents, the system will reopen from today, 1 November until 10 November 2017. The department has warned that no new applications will be processed in January 2018.
“The system is running smoothly and we urge parents who are applying for the first time to make use of this opportunity and apply online,” the department said.
Meanwhile, parents who applied during the admissions period, but have not been placed, are urged to visit the district office for placement. These parents need not reapply as their details have already been captured on the system.
To date, a total of 222,378 learners, which is 77% of all applicants, have been placed. This figure represents 123,450 Grade 1 and 98,928 Grade 8 pupils.
Thanking parents who applied on time, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi assured parents that their children will be placed.
“The department has plans to ensure that all applicants who applied on time are placed. We cannot thank enough the people of Gauteng for their overwhelming response to our call to utilise the online application system”
Several Gauteng schools are full and cannot accept more learners. There are 2,017 Public Ordinary Schools that offer Grade 1 and 8 pupils. At least 402 of these schools received applications beyond their school capacity and will not be available to parents to submit late applications.
