McLaren to part ways with Honda, shifts to Renault

NEWSWATCH: After months of speculation, the McLaren team has confirmed that it will split ways with engine supplier, Honda, at the end of the 2017 season and has also announced that it has signed a three-year partnership with Renault.

According to a report on F1 Fanatic, Zak Brown, McLaren executive director said: “There has never been any doubt over Honda’s commitment and energy to the mission of success in Formula One” but “our partnership has not flourished as any of us would have wished. It is certainly not for the want of effort on the part of either Honda or McLaren, but the time has come to move ahead in different directions.”

From 2018, McLaren will be using Renault engines. According to Brown, the change gives McLaren the stability it needs to move ahead with its chassis and technical programme for 2018 without any further hesitation.
