Zoological Gardens, McDonald's partner for festive season

In its bid to entice more South Africans to learn about conservation, the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria and restaurant chain McDonald's have partnered to treat 150 000 Gautengers to a zoo visit this festive season. The promotion, which kicked off on 16 December, will see each Happy Meal purchase at selected Gauteng McDonald's restaurants accompanied by a complimentary entrance ticket to the zoo, valid until 31 January 2012.

Craig Allenby, marketing manager at the National Zoological Gardens, says the campaign aims to substantially increase visitor numbers to the property to explore our natural heritage. The zoo has also created a holiday programme aimed at further enticing visitors. "We have a bumper festive programme starting on 16 December through to 31 December, designed to complement our conservation attractions and engage with the community," says Allenby.

The zoo will screen movies, host greeting card workshops, Friday jazz and family photo-booths among others while Ragged Tooth Shark feeding, Gorilla talks and South American Fur Seal interactions are on the agenda.
