Hulamin protection duty refused

Aluminium producer, Hulamin applied for a 10% duty on semi-fabricated, rolled products to protect it from foreign exports but the application has been turned down by the International Trade Administration Commission according to an article published in Business Day.

The commission said it had found no evidence of any significant change in circumstances since its previous investigation. It recommended in 2008 and all duties be phased out by January next year.

Business Day says that Hulamin is the only South African producer of rolled aluminium products that are widely used in the building, packaging and automotive industries.
