DTI intervenes in Kansai-Freeworld merger

The Department of Trade and Industry is allowed to participate in the merger hearing between Kansai Paint and Freeworld Coatings that is due to take place from November 14 to 25 according to an article published by Business Live.

The DTI applied to the Competition Tribunal for intervene in the planned merger based on public interest grounds but excluding issues of employment and followed the Competition Commission's approval of the merger on condition that Kansai divest the entire automotive business of Freeworld.

Kansai has requested that the tribunal approve the merger without the divestiture condition.
