Western Cape Dept of Agriculture is SA's best
Based on its annual reporting, the Western Cape Department of Agriculture is the best department in South Africa, according to the South African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA). Having competed against other provincial and national departments and scoring an impressive 96.55% for its annual report, the WCDA received the overall winner award, as well as the award for the best provincial department.
"Being recognised as the best department in the country is an exceptional honour," proud Western Cape minister of agriculture and rural development, Gerrit van Rensburg, said, adding that the achievement reflects the hard work done at the department. "This award was earned through the department's culture of relentless drive to keep on improving", he said, concluding that the award is also reflected in the manner in which the department goes about its day-to-day business.
The executive president of the SAIGA awards, Professor Dieter Gloeck, heaped praise on the Western Cape Department of Agriculture for its commitment to effective and accountable reporting. SAIGA introduced the public sector awards ten years ago as a way of recognising excellence in annual reports published by national and provincial departments.
