In a statement on Thursday, 5 June, the minister said he wished to state that he did not own a farm, but had a herd of cattle.
Furthermore, he said he was committed to the sectoral determination of the farm worker sector, as stipulated in terms of Section 56 (1) of the Basic Condition of Employment Act, No. 75 of 1997 and as announced by the Minister of Labour in 2013.
"The minister commits himself to leading the sector by example and encourages all farm owners to comply with the minimum wage as stipulated by the sectoral determination committee," said the statement.
