The arrival of influenza vaccines in RSA is delayed in 2015 compared to previous years, due to changes in two of the three strains contained in the vaccine, to better match the currently circulating influenza strains.
"We urge all healthcare professionals and vaccine recipients to verify influenza vaccines prior to usage, to ensure that vaccines are registered in RSA and include the WHO recommended strains for the 2015 Southern Hemisphere influenza season", says Jaco Smit, General Manager, Sanofi Pasteur Southern Africa.
As the occurrence of counterfeit medicines has surged globally in recent years, customers and consumers are encouraged to avoid purchasing vaccines on the Internet from foreign or unknown sources. It is illegal to import vaccines in South Africa without a valid import license.
"Sanofi Pasteur will inform all customers as soon as its influenza vaccine is released and available in the market", concludes Jaco Smit.
