Developed by The Muller group, the 19,000m² Madadeni Mall is anchored by Shoprite and Boxer and serves a residential catchment of more than 40,000 households.
Located approximately 16km from Newcastle’s CBD, the centre combines national retailers, local businesses, food outlets and services spanning banking and healthcare, creating a new retail destination designed around the everyday needs of residents and commuters.
“Madadeni has a substantial, established consumer market, and the opportunity existed to bring a broader retail offering closer to the people who live and work here,” says Jonathan Tagg, chief executive officer of The Myriad Retail Property group.
“With Shoprite and Boxer as anchors, supported by national brands, local businesses and essential services, the tenant mix gives shoppers good reasons to visit regularly and retailers a strong platform from which to trade.”
The mall’s tenant mix is designed around everyday needs, allowing shoppers to complete several errands in one visit. Alongside its two supermarket anchors, retailers include Clicks, Ackermans, Pep, Pep Home, Clothing Junction and Nizams, with Roots Butchery adding to the food shopping offer.
Furniture and household retailers include Bradlows, Beares, Real Beds and The Bed Shop, while banking, telecommunications and healthcare services complement the shopping mix. Food outlets include McDonald’s, KFC, Wimpy and Debonairs, alongside local businesses such as Mbuthweni Bakery.

Strategic location advantage
Madadeni Mall’s position on a major transport route places it within reach of residents and commuters, with nearby institutions including Majuba College, Majuba Technology Centre, Madadeni Hospital and Madadeni Nursing Campus. Its proximity to these facilities, as well as the police station and magistrate’s court, connects the mall to an area where people already travel for work, education and services.
For retailers, the combination of an established residential market and activity around these institutions underpins the centre’s appeal. For shoppers, bringing a wide range of stores and services together locally creates greater convenience and choice.
Kwa-Zulu-Natal Member of the Executive Council for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Musa Zondi, joined Amajuba District Municipality leadership for the official opening of Madadeni Mall in Section 6.
“Opening day is an important milestone, but the long-term measure of success will be how well the mall serves its community,” adds Tagg. “We have focused on bringing together the shops and services people need in a convenient, accessible environment. We look forward to seeing Madadeni Mall become part of everyday life here.”
Madadeni Mall opened to the public on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
