Beefmaster Group has opened applications for its 2027 agriculture bursary programme, offering financial support to South African students in their final year of agricultural studies.
Two bursaries will be awarded for the 2027 academic year, with applications closing on 31 August 2026.
Who can apply?
The bursary is open to South African citizens in their final year of study who have an excellent academic record and are studying one of the following qualifications at a recognised South African tertiary institution:
• BSc Agriculture majoring in Agricultural Economics
• BSc Agriculture majoring in Animal Science
• B Agriculture majoring in Animal Production
The bursary covers tuition, accommodation and books.
Beefmaster said the programme forms part of its efforts to develop skilled young professionals for South Africa's agricultural sector.
Since the programme was established, the company has awarded bursaries to more than 20 students, with recipients going on to careers in the beef and broader agricultural sectors.
One former bursary recipient now works for Beefmaster Group as a Section Manager at its Christiana feedlot.
Cindy Nkgoeng, HR manager at Beefmaster Group, said this illustrates the longer-term career opportunities the programme aims to create. “Agriculture needs skilled people with the knowledge, passion and commitment to contribute to the future of the sector. By supporting students at this important stage of their studies, we can help remove some of the financial barriers they face while giving them the opportunity to focus on completing their qualifications and using it as a springboard to launch their careers,” she says.
How to apply
Applicants must submit a brief CV containing their personal information, along with a half-page motivation explaining why they should be awarded the bursary.
Applications must also include:
• A certified copy of their South African ID
• A certified copy of their Grade 12/Matric certificate
