| | | No Comment | One of South Africa’s most impressive showcases, Design Indaba, is turning 10 years old this year and promises to deliver one of the most exciting and innovative events to date. Unparalleled in the broader creative industries for the sheer volume of creative ideas and innovation on show at the concurrent expo and the number of global thought leaders at the podium at the conference and specialist indabas - it is a must on any idea person’s calendar. And it is not just about design trends, but about those trends that influence all aspects of our lives, from the focus on individuals to our homes, work spaces, how we will live in the future. It is a place to be inspired, across all aspects of work, home, play, spirit. It’s certainly my annual creative fix! The three days of the main indaba, the expo (which is open to the public over the weekend, 24 - 25 February 2007) and the specialist indabas in architecture, jewellery and lifestyle/fashion run alongside the main indaba on 21 - 23 February, which attracts top international and local speakers. Highlights are: architect Cameron Sinclair, named as “one of the seven people changing the world for better” by Fortune on ‘Design like you give a Damn!’; the ever-effervescent trend forecaster Li Edelkoort who is always inspirational; unconventional designer Ruudt Peters; and some of the world's top creatives at the main indaba, such as photographer David LaChapelle, artist and musician Brian Eno, and Daljit Singh, creative director and founder of Digit, one of the leading UK interactive design companies. A marketing plan helps [Marc Ashton]Ten thousand rand it would seem to be is the figure that newly launched small businesses decide is THE number. What is interesting, though, is when you turn around and ask them to define what "marketing" they are going to do with this R10 000, they will turn to you and say: "R1000 for business cards and the rest for some brochures or a website..." Right... and where does the "marketing" aspect come in?!
