Google held the continent's first Think With Google Retail Summit in Cape Town last week. The key takeaways focused on SA retailers needing to learn from past, move quickly, take inspiration from global leaders and move forward with an omnichannel mindset.

Similarly, contributor Julia Ahlfeldt explains why physical and online retail should not work as opposing forces, instead, they're best operating in tandem. While Sylvain Charlebois details why grocers should prepare to 'join the blockchain party'.

In other top news, luxury goods group Richemont, owned by SA billionaire Johann Rupert, has announced a global strategic partnership with Alibaba Group which will see the launch of a luxury goods platform for the Chinese market. And Fraym has released a report providing detailed insights into key African markets that will help companies accelerate their growth on the continent.

In other research news, a report by Black-Friday.Global reveals that 87% of South Africans know what Black Friday is and 66% are willing to participate in the shopping spree this year, with an average spend of R1,600 expected per shopper.

The results of the annual Sunday Times Top Brands survey were announced last week, seeing Koo, Ogilvy and Discovery Health take top honours. And congrats to Tanqueray and Craft Link Distillery's Ginologist Floral Gin for coming out tops in Sunday Times Lifestyle Gin Awards.
