MTL rolls out mobile fixed phones

MTL head of marketing, Elias Imaan said during the regional launch of the gadget on Monday that the new phone, CM121L is part of the company's wide range under its liberty products.

“With this new gadget, which is as good as a cellular phone, customers will make calls using ground phone tariffs which is the cheapest in the country; with this phone we can also proudly say that we are the first to offer voicemail service facility,” said Imaan.

The CM121L phone is modern and portable at 105x44x13.5 mm in size and 63g in weight.

The only drawback for this facility according to Imaan is that it has limited freedom for the user as it can only be used within specific boundaries of cities or localities it is registered.

“This is due to the nature of a licence that was given to us by Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority,” said Imaan.

He explained to potential customers in the northern Mzuzu city during the launch, that once a customer buys the phone and registers it in Mzuzu then they will not be able to use it when they visit capital city Lilongwe or commercial city of Blantyre until they re-register it again in the city visited.
