Malawi: ZBS, Multichoice team up for WC

Malawi's Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) has caught the World Cup fever which has forced it to join hands with Multichoice Malawi in an initiative where the ZBS will be using DStv's signal to conduct free open-air viewings of the different games across the country.

The initiative, Zodiak Mobile Screen Cinema, comes at a time when the radio station has just submitted a TV licence application to the Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA).

ZBS, which has been running adverts about the initiative in the local newspapers, says its initiative is aimed at providing an opportunity to Malawians who cannot afford to watch the South African hosted World Cup which commences on 11 June 2010 and finishes on 11 July 2010.

"With SuperSport screening this incredible event's live coverage of FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup, across the continent, to DStv audiences in over 40 African countries, DStv audiences definitely will enjoy the comprehensive coverage of the events and have something to celebrate," said Multichoice manager for Central and Northern regions, Titania Katenga Kaunda.

Malawians have expressed their displeasure with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for failing to host any of the 32 teams when all its neighbours like Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zimbabwe have managed this feat.
