    2010 MISA-Malawi Media Awards winners

The 2010 MISA-Malawi Media Awards were held earlier this week as part of the World Press Freedom Day celebrations at the Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre. Journalist Maxwell Ng'ambi won the overall media award as well as the 2010 Best Investigative Journalist Award for the fourth consecutive year. Ng'ambi, however, has left the industry to join the corporate world as an employee of Standard Bank Malawi.

Ng'ambi told Bizcommunity that he was proud to have the Best Investigative Journalist award for four successive years.
“No journalist has beaten me in the last four years in investigative journalism in the country and now that I am out of it I hope someone will go for it next year,” said Ng'ambi.

Ng'ambi was awarded Best Investigative Journalist in the print category after exposing corruption at the Road Traffic Department while in the electronic category a similar award was scooped by Pilirani Phiri for exposing shoddy deals in Malawi prisons where inmates are forced to buy food and blankets from the warders. Phiri also won the Best Good Governance in the electronic category.

Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) won Best 2010 Electronic Media House of the year while Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL) won the Best 2010 Print Media House of the Year.

The Lifetime Achiever Award went to Father Piergiogio Gamba of Montfort Media of the Catholic Church.
