    Why Debswana tourism project was abandoned

    When Blackie Marole took over as Debswana managing director he made it clear that he wanted the mining giant to focus on its core business - mining.

    The former diversification strategy was found to be inconsistent with the company's prevailing strategic imperatives, which required a focus on optimising its open-pit mining skills base to sustain the value of its diamond business over the longer term.

    Last week Chobe Member of Parliament (MP) Duncan Mlazie asked the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe to state why the Debswana Tourism development project was abandoned.
