    Flipboard demand overwhelms developers

LONDON, UK: Mike McCue, CEO of Flipboard, the app that allows users to create a personalised digital magazine made up of content that relates to their lives, has been forced to apologise to customers who have been unable to fully set-up the service.

Launched on 20 July, within two days the company restricted access to the app by an invite only process, allowing time for Flipboard systems to cope with consumer demand.

The Flipboard app automatically gathers social-networking updates from a user's Facebook and Twitter accounts to create a single platform through which they can consolidate their social media activities.

    'Incredible response' swamps setup

In a recent message posted on the company website, McCue thanked users for the "incredible response" to Flipboard, and stated: "For the last 36 hours we have been managing an explosive rush of new users which has clearly been beyond our wildest expectations. . . We apologise that we have not been able to setup everyone right away and we will continue to work incredibly hard to enable this."

Flipboard was founded by Mike McCue, former chief executive of Tellme, and Evan Doll, former senior iPhone engineer at Apple, and has attracted US$10.5 million (about R77 million) of investment.
