Maize futures end higher on world markets

South African maize futures ended higher on Monday, 18 August‚ finding support from stronger global grain prices.

"The upside potential in prices is still limited because of ample crops locally and internationally‚" a local trader said.

The August white maize contract gained R13 to R1‚733 a ton‚ with September white maize adding R19 to R1‚753 a ton and the December white maize contract picking up R17 to R1‚806 a ton.

The August yellow maize contract closed R20 higher at R1‚800 a ton‚ with the September yellow maize contract rallying R17 to R1‚817 a ton and the December yellow maize contract rising R16 to R1‚870 a ton.

Wheat for delivery in September gained R5 to R3‚708 a ton and December wheat ended R2 higher at R3‚630 a ton.
