Business Live says operational initiatives were implemented at the terminal during the second quarter of this year and according to Transnet Port Terminals' chief operations officer Velile Dube, these had improved the efficiency of cargo handling at the port.
One of these changes was the way that C-Class containers are handled at the port, which resulted in 30 gross-crane-moves per hour, considerably higher than the norm of just 18 gross-crane-move an hour.
The terminal has also increased its training levels with all berth operators completing the rubber-tyred gantry crane training by the third quarter of this year.
