Transnet faces massive fines
Transnet is facing fines that could run to several million Rands because of the unlawful development of a R1,7 billion upgrade to the container terminal at Durban Harbour. The company failed to get environmental permission for the project from the government.
Last week Transnet published a legal notice calling for public comment on a project that it has already completed. The Department of Environmental Affairs has the right to fine Transnet or order it to demolish the infrastructure it has erected and to rehabilitate the site to its original state. Read more
