According to the Business Day report, Maria Ramos, the chief executive of the bank, said that in addition to his existing duties Von Zeuner would chair a newly established Africa customer committee as well as the bank's Africa community investment committee.

She says that Absa's customer base has grown from 8-million when Barclays acquired it to 12-million today and that Absa plans to continue its expansion drive throughout the African continent.

Moreover, Business Day says that Absa expects its headline and diluted earnings per share for the year to December to be up by 22% compared with the same period in 2010.

The announcement comes just after Absa announced that three other senior executives were leaving the bank.
