Barclays Africa appoints head of corporate finance
Hasnen Varawalla has been appointed as head of corporate finance at Barclays Africa, within the bank's Africa investment banking division's advisory team. Varawalla, who will be based in Johannesburg, will report to Philip Lindop, head of Africa investment banking at Barclays Africa.
Varawalla has over 18 years of investment banking experience. He joins from Renaissance Capital, where he was deputy head of investment banking and co-chairman of the Macquarie-Renaissance Infrastructure Fund.
Experience in emerging markets
Varawalla has considerable emerging markets experience, having led the African investment banking business at Renaissance Capital, in addition to being involved in several important advisory and ECM transactions for African clients over the past seven years.
"Africa is witnessing a period of sustained economic growth, driven by urbanisation, as well as the development of natural resources and infrastructure. As a result, the region is increasingly a key focus for our global clients, but also offers considerable opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs across the continent to prosper," said Lindop.
