BMW Group achieves record sales for September

The BMW Group experienced growth in many regions around the world in September and achieved another record month in sales. With 177 716 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand automobiles delivered worldwide, sales were 11.6% higher than in the same month last year.

It was also the best first nine months for the company, with sales up 8.3% compared to the same period last year. A total of 1 335 502 BMW Group vehicles were delivered during this time.

In South Africa, the BMW Group sold 2 331 vehicles in September 2012. To date, BMW South Africa has delivered a total of 21 464 vehicles to customers, an increase of 10%, compared to the same period in 2011.

"We made solid gains in many of our markets last month and were once again able to achieve record sales in September, despite the difficult environment in some European countries. Our models continue to perform well and we expect to see further healthy growth in worldwide sales in the fourth quarter. We are well on course to achieving a new sales record for the whole year," says Ian Robertson, member of the board of management of BMW AG, responsible for sales and marketing.

Demand for 3 Series is growing

Demand for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan continues to grow with 1 193 vehicles delivered to customers last month. Other best-selling BMW models in South Africa during September 2012 were the BMW 1 Series 5-door, BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW X5 and the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

Locally, MINI brand sales increased by 0.5% in September 2012 to 210 vehicles. To date, 1 996 MINI vehicles have been delivered to customers locally - an increase of 5.9% compared to the same period in 2011.

Demand for Rolls-Royce motor cars remained steady with a small decrease of 4.7% year-to-date compared to 2011. The worldwide market introduction of Phantom Series II in September and the potential for seasonally strong fourth quarter sales causes Rolls-Royce to remain confident of another strong annual result.

In South Africa, BMW Motorrad supplied a total of 184 motorcycles to customers last month - a decrease of 8%. To date, 1 774 motorcycles have been delivered to local customers, which is down 0.5% compared to the same period the previous year.
