According to the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL), the construction started on April 19 and will be completed in December next year.
"Motorists are advised to be observant of the advance warning signs and lane closures, and should exercise caution when travelling through the construction work zones. The speed limit through these construction zones will be reduced to 60 km/h," SANRAL said in a statement on Tuesday.
The interchange will be constructed in a clearly defined construction zone under traffic. This will be done in phased approaches, where traffic will be accommodated on the existing carriageway and temporary bypasses or deviations with STOP/GO traffic accommodation towards the latter part of the construction.
The construction is being done by Group Five Coastal Pty Ltd, with the monitoring of the work performed by Nathoo Mbenyane Engineers/DEC Joint Venture.
