E-tolls on deputy president's agenda in Parly

Some of the questions to be posed to him will be around the new dispensation of the e-toll system and if it will be financially viable both for the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) to continue operating the system and for ordinary South Africans who have to pay for the system.

New e-toll dispensation with revised fees

Last month, Deputy President Ramaphosa announced a new e-toll dispensation with revised fees.

The changes included a single, reduced tariff of 30 cents per kilometre which will apply to all motorists using the e-tolled network in the province, as well as a monthly cap that has been reduced to R225 a month for standard vehicles.

The Deputy President also announced that the e-toll fees that are currently outstanding will be discounted by 60%. Motorists that use tolled roads will have six months within which to settle their debts dating back to December 2013 at the discounted tariff.

According to the new dispensation, motorists in arrears on their e-toll account will have to settle their outstanding debt before renewing their car licence discs.

Other questions will also be adressed

The other question that Deputy President Ramaphosa will face will be around the county's parastatals and steps he has taken with regard to the South African Airways, Eskom and the South African Post Office to change their situation.

Other questions include adult education and training for people who are currently employed in the formal and informal sectors and who have never had the opportunity of an education, as well as the implementation of the Higher Education HIV/AIDS Programme (HEAIDS) to reach out to rural and village campuses of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges and communities around those campuses.
