Hisense produces 84" UHD TV, partners with DHL Express

Hisense, the global manufacturer of consumer electronics and home appliances, has launched their new 84" UHD (Ultra High Definition) TV, which will be manufactured at its manufacturing facility in Atlantis, Cape Town. The TV, hailed as the 'Evolution of TV', is reported to be the biggest consumer UHD TV to be produced on South African shores.

The first order of the TV to be produced locally has been made by the express and logistics giant, DHL Express. It was handed over to their managing director for sub-Saharan Africa, Charles Brewer, at a hand-over ceremony last week which was also attended by the Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia De Lille.

Investing locally

With DHL Express ordering the first of the locally produced 84" UHD TVs, comes the partnership of the two global companies who have chosen to base themselves in Cape Town to invest in the local industry and surrounding communities.

Hisense manufacturing facility opened its 25,200m2 high-tech manufacturing facility in Atlantis in June 2013, injecting approximately R350 million into the local economy. The factory's capacity allows for the production of an estimated 400,000 refrigerators and TVs each per year. More than 300 production positions have already been filled by the local residents.

In the next three to five years, Hisense aims to take its local workforce up to 1 000, and a solid strategy is in place to ensure this growth. Hisense already owns 100 0002 of land in Atlantis to facilitate expansion of the facility, and extend manufacture to washing-machines and air conditioners.

In April this, Hisense donated 46 LED monitors to Atlantis High School with plans of numerous community upliftment projects for the future.

"The investment in the community and in South Africa as a whole, by Hisense is significant. Taking into consideration the impact that the investment will have on indirect employment, we are looking at creating more than 3,000 jobs in related industries," commented Jerry Liu, the general manager of Hisense South Africa.

"The optimisation of our local supply chain, and the positive growth and competitiveness of our products in the local market, support our plans to grow the business in the country and the continent. The production of the new 84" UHD TV solidifies our commitment to uplifting the local industry, by producing world class goods locally," he continued.

Smart TV technology

The new 84" UHD TV offers Smart TV with a revolutionary display technology, built-in Wifi, and an elegant, narrow frame. It also offers new 4k UHD, or 'Ultra High Definition' technology, which packs in four time the number of pixels into the same screen size as traditional 1080p HDTVs, enabling a realistic picture quality and natural motion with incredible detail. The term 4k refers to the approximately 4 000 pixels on the horizontal resolution.

Smart TV technology allow viewers to personalise their viewing experience, while WiFi, internet and built-in apps all come as standard. The in-built 3D engine is so powerful that it allows a conversation from normal 2D movies and TV programming to 3D in real-time, with the push of a button.
