International speakers to attend KZNIA conference

The 2012 Conference of the KwaZulu-Natal Institute for Architecture (KZNIA), themed "New Paradigms", will be held on 26 and 27 October at the Docklands Hotel in Durban.

New Paradigms marks a positive development in the evolution of the popular KZN Architectural Education Conference. The conference now includes SAFAL Steel as title sponsor while still maintaining strong ties with local educational institutions Durban University of Technology and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Product and service exhibition

Attendees can look forward to international as well as local speakers, while side events include a cocktail networking event on the Friday and product and service exhibition running parallel. A highlight will include the launch of Open Architecture, a revolutionary new architectural learning platform which will be demonstrated through the course of the conference.

One of the objectives of the theme is to raise questions around generally accepted architectural discourse; from physical aspects such as approaches, materials and tools to intangibles such as teaching, networks and patronage. Speakers at the conference include Rajeev Kathpalia, architect and director of the Vastu Shilpa Institute in India, and John Stevenson, an architect and educator leading professional programmes at the School of Architecture at the Oxford Brookes University in the UK.
