On 7 September 2015 Startup Grind's Guillaume De Smedt will be chatting to Jeanne Groenewald, the successful female entrepreneur who founded this business in 2002.
In 1992 Jeanne received her Bsc.Degree in Agriculture from the University of Stellenbosch. She then helped develop her father's duck rearing business into one of the biggest suppliers of duck in the country. In 1996 after she got married, she started rearing chickens on her husband's farm as a means to provide a healthy alternative for her family. Little did she know that this little business she started in her backyard would exceed all expectations.
Jeanne has won numerous awards, including being named a winner of the National Female Farmer of the Year for National Markets. In August 2014, Jeanne was honoured by the Department of Agriculture and this time she was awarded the Top Commercial Female Entrepreneur Award for 2014. The Department of Agriculture nominated her for the Western Cape Premier's Female Entrepreneur of the Year. As the leader of Elgin Free Range Chickens, Jeanne was a category winner in the Established Business Category and the overall winner of this prestigious award.
