    94.7 suspends two presenters

94.7 Highveld Stereo has suspended two of its presenters with immediate effect following recent remarks they made on air relating to Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a media statement, station manager Ravi Naidoo said, "Revin John and Lloyd de Bruin have been taken off air with immediate effect and without pay for one week."

At the same time, the presenters have issued the following on air apology: "On the 28th of April 2004, on this show, Lloyd de Bruin and I (Revin John) made reference to the Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo's visit to South Africa for the inauguration. During the on air chat we made certain remarks which were spontaneous. One particular comment was made off the cuff, and it referred to President Obasanjo and Nigerians in general and it made mention of drugs. We hereby unreservedly apologise for making these irresponsible comments. They were spontaneous and not thought out. No malice was intended. We hereby also unreservedly apologise to the Nigerian President and his government for this statement."

Naidoo said he viewed the remarks about President Obasanjo made by John and de Bruin "in a very serious light". He added: "The suspension of both presenters were made after an internal enquiry."

Revin John and Lloyd de Bruin present the 7pm to 10pm show, Mondays to Fridays on 94.7 Highveld Stereo.
