    SA soapies join AfricaMagic

South African made soap operas Generations and Isidingo will from today, 28 May 2012 start airing on AfricaMagic Entertainment, Channel 128, according to a media release from MultiChoice Malawi. This is weeks after the revision of the channel line-up of AfricaMagic by M-Net Africa which has pioneered continental TV brand for viewers.

The two daily soap opera series is the latest development which MultiChoice says is particularly significant because it means that for viewers outside of South Africa, the best place to watch the freshest episodes will be on AfricaMagic Entertainment.

M-Net Africa managing director, Biola Alabi said they are very pleased that they have been able to conclude their agreement with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) for the rights to screen these shows that already have a proven record of attracting audiences and maintaining high levels of viewer interest.

"...The fact that we will be screening the latest episodes shortly after the SABC is a great benefit to our audiences," she says.

Alabi goes expressed gratitude to audiences for their understanding and support during the recent changes to the AfricaMagic channels.

"There were several changes which our audiences were very patient with and we received a lot of positive feedback about the revised and new channels," she said.

Alabi also thanked M-Net's content suppliers for their great support and helpful suggestions.

"...of course, we must thank the cast and crews of all our shows who have been so enthusiastic about making AfricaMagic Entertainment a success. Overall, we're happy with the response received to date. It's a good sign for the future of a brand we're deeply committed to," she said.

Along with other M-Net series, Generations and Isidingo will offer African drama, filmed with storylines that are both relevant to African audiences and, in many ways, reflective of their own hopes, ambitions and desires.

    Generations

It further explains that the backdrop of Generations is the advertising industry, with a storyline that celebrates the dreams and aspirations of Africans.

"As in all soaps, rivalry, treachery and blackmail between siblings, friends and foes alike make Generations one of the most forceful dramas South Africa has ever produced," reads the statement.

Generations will be screened on AfricaMagic Entertainment from Monday to Friday at 9.30PM CAT, with repeats the following weekday at 1PM CAT. Viewers will be able to wathc an omnibus of the week's episodes on a Saturday afternoon.

    Isidingo

Isidingo is described as a daily serial set in the mining village of Horizon Deep, Johannesburg.

"The structure of the mining community from the miners to executive management reflects South African society as it is in the new millennium," it says.

The characters and storylines deal with the issues which face ordinary people in their daily lives - their loves, fears, problems, heartaches and triumphs.

Isidingo will be screened on AfricaMagic Entertainment from Monday to Friday at 10PM CAT, with repeats the following weekday at 4PM CAT. Viewers will be able to wathc an omnibus of the week's episodes on a Saturday afternoon.
