Arcfox, part of the Baic Group, is positioned as the group's premium new-energy vehicle brand and focuses on electric vehicles, connected technology and intelligent driving.

The brand made its first public appearance in South Africa at the Festival of Motoring in August, where it introduced its vehicles to local consumers and automotive media ahead of its planned launch.

One of the models showcased was the Arcfox T1, a compact electric SUV designed for urban use.

The T1 features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen display. Baic South Africa said local specifications will be confirmed closer to the vehicle's launch.

The company describes Arcfox as a technology-focused brand, with its vehicles built around connected digital systems and intelligent driving technologies. Some Arcfox models have also been developed in collaboration with technology companies, including Huawei.

Global expansion

Arcfox's planned South African entry forms part of a wider international expansion by the brand.

Arcfox is already represented in markets across Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe, with recent launches including Egypt, Malaysia, Spain and Portugal.

In South Africa, the brand will sit alongside Baic's existing vehicle operations as the group's premium electric offering.

Baic South Africa is currently expanding its presence in the local market through its vehicle range and dealer network, while Arcfox will target the premium electric vehicle segment.

Local launch ahead

Ameena Sheik Hassan, brand and PR manager at Baic South Africa, said the Festival of Motoring provided an opportunity to introduce Arcfox to the local market before it goes on sale.

"Arcfox represents a new chapter for Baic in South Africa. It brings a premium, technology-led electric vehicle to a market that is ready for it," she said.

Further details on the South African range, specifications and launch timing are expected to be confirmed closer to the local launch.
