| | | No Comment | Returning from leave from a place like Namibia last week (no email, no news, barely-there cell reception... utter bliss...), the noise, speed and intensity of high octane Joburg always hits me like a shock wave on arrival. Notable are the constant innovations in marketing and branding at OR Tambo International Airport in recent years - a kaleidoscope of colour and brands, with the rash of new low cost airlines certainly adding to the colour palate. So I thought it particularly appropriate when I received branding in our in-flight lunch boxes from Walvis Bay to Joburg from Vitaforce with its Nutri-B vitamins and promotional material to aid "stressful living". Very appropriate for those of us returning to Joburg from our holidays! And for everyone else closing up shop this week and heading for the hills, the sea and anywhere but work, please travel safely and refresh! Bizcommunity.com sends out its last ezine for the year on 15 December, and we reopen on 8 January, with our first ezine for 2007. The website will however be updated with news throughout December and January for the diehard workaholics and Biz addicts. Happy holidays!
Au revoir! Louise Marsland, editor, editor@bizcommunity.com.

| Forums | | Why can I not use clip-art in my logo? My client won't believe me when I tell him that I cannot use "Koerêl Drô" (CorelDraw) clip-art in his logo. Can someone help with facts/pointers/things to tell him that will sound reasonable (since he thinks I'm just being a "prima donna arty person" who is being "difficult")? What is your view?
Industry-fixed pricing? Is there a governing body which regulates pricing in the graphic and 3D design industry or are companies charging as they deem fit? What is your view?
Salaries in the design/advertising/digital Industry - how do you know what to pay? How do you know what to pay your staff, what is a good starting salary, when do you give a raise etc etc? What is your view?
Old school advertising There is a billboard on the corner of Rivonia and Katherine streets for a strip club touting it as a great business lunch venue. Isn't it time we acknowledged that strip clubs aren't places to conduct business - but are rather entertainment venues? What is your view?
Marketing terms cause confusion I got presented a TV schedule by agency, with the abbreviation AR on it - being too proud to ask (one presumes you know everything), I never figured out what it is. Is there a glossary of marketing terms somewhere? What is your view?
