Europe recognises SA marketing qualifications [Issa Sikiti da Silva] From now on, any South African individual who is awarded a marketing qualification - underwritten by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) through its agent the Services SETA - can find employment more easily in one of the European Marketing Confederation (EMC) countries. The announcement of this international recognition of SA qualifications was made yesterday, Wednesday, 28 November 2006, at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, in a ceremony attended by European delegates and various local representatives of the education and training field.

Handfield-Jones takes on Arrive Alive Rob Handfield-Jones, editor of Caxton's AutoDealer, recently won the consumer complaint that he lodged with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of SA against a Department of Transport radio commercial for the Arrive Alive campaign, which was aired on Radio 702 until 1 December 2006. The commercial stated, inter alia, "Not wearing a seatbelt it is just not worth it" and "An airbag will not work without a seatbelt in use." Handfield-Jones contested that it is is untrue and misleading to say airbags will not function unless seatbelts are worn, as they can reduce injuries involving unbelted occupants. Johncom Media has revived the King William's Town Mercury, a weekly community newspaper, in order to serve the Bhisho-King region of the Eastern Cape. The paper, which was founded in 1875, was closed in 2001 for financial reasons by the then owners, Dispatch Media.

Tribute to Lebo Mathosa e.tv will be running a special tribute documentary on the short-lived life of Lebo Mathosa, on Wednesday, 13 December 2006, at 8pm. The 29-year-old musician, whose mentor was the late Brenda Fassie, was killed in the early hours of Monday, 23 October 2006, on the N3 highway in East Rand, Johannesburg.
