One of the most inspirational speakers and writers today is Deepak Chopra and he will be speaking live in Johannesburg on Wednesday courtesy of Global Leaders events - which has just opened an office in South Africa following on the success of the phenomenal events last year which brought global leaders such as Rudy Giuliani, Carly Fiorina, Tom Peters, Philip Kotler, Michael Porter, Scott Bedbury, etc, live and in person, not via satellite link, to SA. Yes, its rates are aimed at corporates, but its service and organisation is such that it already stands heads and shoulders ahead of local conference organisers, even those with international links, that it seems to me that there is room for serious international competition in the eventing industry with events of this nature. Awareness is the key to successful soulful leadership, says Chopra. His leadership programme enables people to create - or rediscover - the drive to exceed their capabilities. His take on leadership is reflective: 'Leadership in this respect is about great responsibility (not power or money) but to affect change and allow everyone to express their potential.' Magazines
    Winning ingredients for magazine publishing
[Louise Marsland] The annual magazine publishing awards, the PICAs, hosted by the Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa and sponsored by Sappi, were one of the more interesting this year. They were as glitzy and glam as usual, with SA's top editors in their designer best, contentious after one publisher boycotted the awards alleging publishing mediocrity, and fascinating as the obscure Dairy Mail won best business-to-business title for the second year in a row, while the consumer editors lined up for the first best editor award named after publishing doyen Jane Raphaely. But none of this detracted from the best magazines on the night... so what are the winning ingredients?

To be free or not... that is the question for mags
[Chris Moerdyk] It came as no surprise that Caxton decided to ditch Style magazine, however iconic it might be. In its own words, as a small, niche title, it simply does not fit in with its new publishing strategy. Quite right - it shouldn't fit in anyone's publishing strategy. But, moving beyond Caxton, one can't help wondering about future magazine publishing strategy in this country. My guess is that it will be based on whether to go the free sheet route of community newspapers or stick with hefty cover prices.

According to the statement, "the FXI is disturbed to note that both Courts do not recognise that Abarder has a 'just excuse' not to testify'.
