No Comment | While researchers and global corporations research 'the corporation of the future', there has never been any doubt that leadership is a skill that needs to be developed constantly to ensure due process within and outside of organisations. Last week South Africans were privileged to experience global leaders like Scott Bedbury, Carly Fiorina, Tom Peters and Rudy Giuliani live and in person on stage in South Africa. What struck me the most listening to them, was the simplicity of the delivery of their messages. There was no death-by-powerpoint droning on, few of the latest management gobbledygook and buzz words... there was lots of storytelling instead. And lots of emphasis on values and leadership essence that I think many in business take for granted: integrity, ethics, authenticity, listening skills, "people matter", employees first, horizontal leadership rather than top down dictatorship, and so on. We need to listen to them - no matter how big or small your own organisation is. This is about creating sustainable business for the future, empowering and growing employees, building capacity within organisations and your industry sector and creating knowledge assets for the generation to come. And here at Bizcommunity.com, our congratulations go to our own sports star - our Johannesburg account executive, Gee Friedman, who is part of the South African Korfball squad for the Korfball Commonwealth Games in London, 14 - 16 July 2006. We all wish her the best of luck at the games!
Enjoy! Louise Marsland, editor, www.bizcommunity.com

Not so, according to Professor Michael Porter, the global authority on competitive strategy and the competitiveness and economic development of nations, states and regions.
Leadership is about making a difference [Louise Marsland] The most important thing a leader can do is to recognise the leadership potential in others. SA's cutting edge, high-tech 2010 marketing The message at Frankfurt International Airport to the thousands of soccer fans who have converged on Germany is clear: South Africa is open for trade, investment and tourism and has the capacity to successfully host the 2010 World Cup. And it's the International Marketing Council's use of cutting edge technology that is marketing the country during the month-long event.
All you need to know...[about business]

Addressing churn - the right way Understanding that churn reduction strategies are managerial challenges, as much as technical ones, is key to customer retention, argues marketing insight company Knowledge Factory. Companies are increasingly aware of the huge impact losing one's customers can have on their bottom line, but many initiatives designed to arrest such 'customer churn' fall short of expectations and fail to deliver.
Lessons in leadership from Rudy Giuliani [Louise Marsland] 'Relentless preparation' is a leadership lesson from former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, which he says helped him deal with what needed to be done in the aftermath of the World Trade Centre attacks on September 11, 2001. He was speaking live and in person at the Global Leaders Africa Summit in Johannesburg yesterday, Wednesday, 21 June 2006.

True leaders build capacity
[Louise Marsland] The Reverend Jesse Jackson opened the Global Leaders Africa Summit in Johannesburg today, 20 June 2006, with the message that the South African path to democracy was a model of success for both business and politics. Jackson will be joined over the next three days on stage by thought leaders such as Tom Peters, Michael Porter, Carly Fiorina, Rudy Giuliani and Scott Bedbury, among others, in one of the most high profile events of this nature ever held in South Africa with all the speakers appearing in person.
The implications of body mass index for marketing Whether a person is underweight, normal weight, overweight or obese will often impact upon their attitudes and subsequent behaviour. Research from TGI reveals how consumers around the world differ dramatically when it comes to body shape.
Comparisons and choices: Your attitude to competition - Freelanza People offering goods and services for sale are often expected to quote price in advance of supply. Frequently that implies that the enquirer is seeking quotes from alternative suppliers as well. How do service sellers and buyers feel about making comparisons? Especially if the comparative results are made public!
