Football fans create new team tune

In anticipation of the African football championships in January 2006, PUMA and MTV have joined forces to launch a contest to create a new African football national team song. Contestants will have the opportunity to submit original lyrics online that will be used as inspiration to create an official song for one of the six PUMA sponsored national teams competing in Egypt.

MTV and PUMA will elicit the efforts of football fans from across Europe and Africa to submit rhymes or chants for Cameroon, Senegal, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Togo or Ghana.

The consumer contest is being promoted with a 45 second TV spot running on ten MTV Europe channels, MTV Base Africa and nine localized MTV websites. The TV campaign opens with a football coach giving an inspired halftime speech to his team. As the camera pans to the bench, the "players" are revealed as musicians not footballers.

PUMA's football ambassador, Pelé, appears on the screen and implores viewers to help inspire the musicians and give African football a tune.

Contestants can submit entries online from October 20 through November 20. Finalists will travel to London to present their lyrics to MTV and PUMA. Four winners will receive an all expenses paid trip to the African football championships in Egypt, tickets to the opening match, as well as the opportunity to meet some PUMA athletes.
