China offers Malawi duty free market access

The Chinese government has offered Malawi duty-free trade preferences to imports originating from within the country. Malawi's Industry and Trade Minister Henry Mussa said the country's business community and the public should exploit the market access opportunities that have been created by this Trade Preferential Scheme.

“This is in an effort to foster economic relations between the governments of Malawi and the People's Republic of China,” he said.

Mussa said the products to be traded under this trade preferential scheme, which are close to 466 in number, will have to meet stipulated rules of origin and are supposed to be accompanied by a certificate of origin issued by the Malawi Revenue Authority.

“Arrangement for the implementation of this scheme between the two governments has been finalised,” he said.

He further explained that those who would like to export to China under this scheme need to get Certificate of Origin forms at offices of the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
