Uganda: Barclays sends local entrepreneurs to China expo

Barclays Bank has flagged off a group of 15 Uganda businesspeople to the Canton III Fair in China to strengthen trade ties with their Chinese counterparts. The trade fair will take place between 31 October and 4 November 2009.

The team is scheduled to leave Uganda on Thursday, 29 October 2009 for Guangzhou, where the trade fair will take place.

During the trade exhibition, the traders who are members of the bank's Business Club are expected to meet and interact with over 250 manufacturers and suppliers. The 15 will join another group of Barclays Bank Kenya customers who travel to China for the same objective.

Said Barclays Uganda managing director, Charles Ongwae, “We want you to go there and not just network, but meet your suppliers so that you can begin dealing with them directly.”

Robert Kizito, a beneficiary of the trip said the trip was a chance for him to meet suppliers directly, to help him minimize business costs. “I have always wanted to go Asia because most of my supplies come from there, this is a timely chance,” Kizito said.
