    Military plane hits Guinea TV

A Soviet-made MiG-21 fighter operated by the Guinean air force crashed into a building that hosts Guinea’s state broadcasting centre in the nation’s capital, Conakry, on Monday, 16 April. The pilot ejected safely.

According to Guinean journalist Makale Soumah, who works for the state TV, the incident resulted in a fire on the roof of the building. It was deserted at the time, hence no one was injured - apart from an unlucky, and apparently slow-moving bystander who was clubbed by a policeman trying to evacuate curious onlookers from the scene so that fire fighters could attend to the blaze.

There were fears that the nearby United States embassy may have been harmed, but a spokesman for the embassy said that there was no damage to the mission.
