Sustainable packaging: UK's HDPE milk bottle recycling rate increases to 72%
LONDON, UK: A new HDPE plastic milk bottle recycling study from Recoup1 (RECycling Of Used Plastics Limited) identifies that 72% of HDPE milk bottles consumed and collected in the UK during 2009 were recycled - a significant increase on the previous year's figure of 57%.
It is estimated that 119 000 tons of HDPE plastic milk bottles were consumed in the UK in 2009. Of this total, 86 790 tons were collected for recycling - reflecting the growth in kerbside collections which, it is estimated, now accounts for 4 out of 5 of every bottle collected for recycling.
