Sponsored by the Open Society Initiative (OSI), the students will form the OSI-FJP Youth Newsroom which will report the conference with the theme 'New Voices: Media Freedom Helping to Transform Societies'.
They young journalists are sourced from six countries, namely:
The project aims to give journalism students real-time and meaningful experiential-learning and cultural exchange on a global scale. It is also a rare opportunity for budding journalists to build their career networks in the industry with their international counterparts whilst still at school.
The Highway Africa team departed for Tunis on Sunday, 29 April, and consists of Highway Africa FJP co-ordinator, Nqobile Sibisi; FJP assistant co-ordinator Anele Ngwenya and students, Lincoln Van Der Westhuizen, and Duduetsang Makuse.
The newsroom will be managed and run by FJP together with editors from the IPSI and Oregon University.
The newsroom will produce three print papers which will also be put online on the Highway Africa website; one purely-online edition, and all content will be cross pollinated online.
