At the end of 2012, KTM announced that they were stopping the production of the highly successful and cult-status KTM 990 Adventure after a decade of production.

Enthusiasts had some moans, but KTM had a replacement in mind, with the 1190 Adventure and 1190 Adventure R as the replacements for the KTM 990 Adventure. When you look at the growing list of adventure bikes in South Africa, KTM has dominated this marketing with the 990 Adventure, but can the KTM 1190 adventure range maintain the performance and versatility of the older brother.

The KTM 1190 Adventure is in South Africa and ready to be abused in any terrain. The KTM 1190 Adventure R has been released overseas and will be in South Africa in April 2013.

One of the world's most versatile travel enduros

The KTM engineers made no compromise when it came to giving the MY 2013 Adventure even more performance, versatility, on-road agility and comfort. They adapted the KTM RC8 R's 1190cc super bike V2, which generates 150hp in the 1190 Adventure.

They optimised on-road handling also by smaller wheels and wider tyres. They reduced the seat height by using just a little less suspension travel. They enhanced comfort by making the foot pegs, seat height, handlebars and windshield adjustable. They increased the 1190 Adventure's range by enlarging the tank to 23 litres. And they added some sophisticated riding assistance systems: an ABS you can switch off and that also has an off-road mode which allows lock up of the rear wheel; a traction control you can also switch off and that gives you the choice of four different settings for rain, street, sport and off-road; and an electronic suspension offering four spring pre-loads and three matching damper settings at the push of a button. The strong KTM trellis frame, the top quality suspension components and the powerful brakes round off a comprehensive package. Alpine pass or coastal road, German autobahn or Belgian parvay, rural twisties or urban jungle - the new 1190 Adventure is designed to be the ultimate travel enduro for the adventures on the roads all over the world.

The world's most talented adventure bike

New KTM 1190 Adventure range launched

For all who love adventures in off-road terrain, who dream of travelling to every hidden corner of the world and who love the gritty character of the original Adventure, in 2013, there is the hardcore version of the 1190 Adventure - recognise it by the extra "R" in its name. It also has the 1190cc V2 of the KTM super bike RC8 R, which delivers 150hp in the 1190 Adventure R. It has sufficiently large wheels for maximum off-road capabilities (21 inch front, 18 inch rear) in a suspension with a full 220mm of travel front and rear. And like the 1190 Adventure, the R also has the disengageable anti-lock brakes with an off-road mode that allows lock up of the rear wheel. And it also offers the rider a traction control with four different settings for rain, street, sport and off-road. And you can also switch that off. The strong KTM trellis frame, the top quality, fully adjustable suspension components and the powerful brakes round off a comprehensive package. From gravel roads to smuggler's paths, from desert sand to washboard roads, from water ditches to mud holes - the new 1190 Adventure R is the ultimate adventure bike for the mountains, jungles and deserts of this world.
