Massive military vehicle contract for SA's Land Systems OMC

Defence Professionals reports that Canadian Commercial Corp., General Dynamics Land Systems - Canada, Ontario, has been awarded by the US Marine Corps an US$18.9M contract to inventory, package and ship 425 Block Upgrade 3 (BU3) kits for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. Each BU3 kit includes 55 individual engineering change proposal kits that will be installed on the RG31 MRAP vehicle platform.

Work will be performed in Johannesburg, by General Dynamics Land Systems partner, Land Systems OMC, South Africa's primary military vehicle manufacturing company, and is expected to be completed by November 2012, Defence Professionals reports.

According to Wikipedia, Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) armoured fighting vehicles are used by the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations Forces with the goal of surviving Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks and ambushes. Land Systems OMC has special expertise and wide-ranging experience. It claims that many of its products carry the label "combat proven" ... "having seen action in some of the harshest operational scenarios in the world."
