Call for innovations from Africa's youth

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Accenture are partnering to change the face of Africa's development by implementing the YAS! portal-platform. YAS! is aimed at putting Africa's youth at the centre of the continent's development based on access to resources, opportunities, an ecosystem of stakeholders, and funding.

Both are also sponsors of the second edition of the Africa Innovation Summit (AIS) in Rwanda. The East Africa activation of the YAS! portal-platform will kick off in Kigali at AIS.

As part of this activation of YAS! UNDP is calling on East and Southern Africa’s youth to present their innovations to help end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people everywhere enjoy peace and prosperity. These objectives are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations and present the most ambitious development agenda to date.

AIS will take place from 6 to 8 June 2018 in Kigali, Rwanda, under the patronage of Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Pedro Pires (ex-President of Cabo Verde). This is the second AIS, following the first highly successful Summit that took place in Praia, Cabo Verde.

AIS serves as a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue and a catalyst for coalition and action towards building robust innovation ecosystems in Africa. AIS 2018 will focus on innovation as a tool to address Africa’s pressing challenges, such as health, water and sanitation, food security, governance and energy.

The AIS II will include the main Summit in Kigali; a series of special and side events, as well as an Exhibition of up to 50 African innovations selected from across the continent.
