Sunil Mittal, chairman of Bharti Enterprises owners of Airtel, disclosed that in the coming months, the mobile network operator will put into place an arrangement with its partners to extend its coverage map to the inner communities. The company is committed to taking technology to villages without compromising on quality while doing so. It will also introduce exciting, relevant and innovative products and services, improved customer care service and a quality network.
He also promised to ensure the company transfers skills to Africans including Nigerians, make the network more African and empower Africans to manage it.
Less than two weeks after this promise, the company has firmed up this commitment with the launch of Airtel 2Good tariff, a call rate plan that lowers the cost of making calls to any network within the country and the US. Reportedly, this is the first time in the mobile industry that the call rate is at 20 kobo per second mark after the first call minute of 60 kobo. The service also offers 20 free on net SMS to every customer with N100 recharge every month.
