    MACRA rebrands, unveils new plan

MACRA board member, Richard Chisala said this signifies a response to the growth and diversification on the ICT industry in the country.

"The new logo demonstrates MACRA's ICT regulation roles as it facilitates its growth and ensures universal access to the ICT services," Chisala said.

Information and civic education minister, Patricia Kaliati commended MACRA for its rebranding, describing it as innovative.

"You have demonstrated that you are moving fast along with the global progression in the realm of ICT development," Kaliati added.

    National Frequency Allocation Plan

As part of its new approach to its services, MACRA also unveiled a National Frequency Allocation Plan at the unveiling of the logo in Lilongwe.

"The main purpose of the plan is to align the usage of frequencies to the SADC region as well as Region 1 of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) that covers Europe and Africa," explained Chisala.

Commenting on the National Frequency Allocation Plan as part of the new approach, Chisala said it will help in the management of spectrum, a facility allocated to telecommunication and broadcasting operators as frequencies.

The frequency allocation plan also identifies potential bands for spectrum increase to cater for increased demand of services as well as identifying prime spectrum that will form a framework for revised pricing structure depending on usage, availability and bandwidth allocations.
