Can canned hunting - it's contemptible

Of all the types of hunting in which people involve themselves, the one that probably is the most controversial is so-called canned hunting, in which the prey is not given a fighting chance to escape, but instead is confined in an enclosure and then gets its guts blown apart. Fair and sporting. Not! Which is why Angie White reckons canned hunting cannot be acceptable.

Some people might go further and reckon it's despicable.

Some of Gauteng's clergy have gone over the government's head and are calling for e-toll resistance. According to a report by Khulekani Magubane, clerics in Gauteng said on Monday, 2 December, that they refuse to purchase e-tags or pay tolls for improvements to Gauteng freeways, and they have called on their congregations and all Gauteng residents to do the same.

This should throw the cat among the pigeons... the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) has outlawed racial quotas in the Renate Barnard case, and of course, since the law is all about precedent, this is a landmark case on affirmative action.

If ever you have wondered how to acquire specific licences from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, wonder no longer... because here is how ICASA licensing works.

And now for something completely DIFF-erent... the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) is calling for entries for 2014. It plans to celebrate its 35th edition from 17-27 July 2014 with over 250 screenings of cutting-edge cinema from around the world, and special focus on films from South Africa and Africa.
